Customs make major product piracy bust at Vienna Airport More than 5,000 counterfeit products removed from the market

During a major operation in mid-November at Vienna Airport, customs officers seized a total of 5,121 counterfeit branded products in four consignments from Thailand in the cargo area of the customs warehouse.

The counterfeit goods included 1,402 pairs of shoes, 1,279 bags and rucksacks, 415 sports shirts, 378 caps, 193 jackets, 318 items of jewellery, 115 belts, 318 tracksuits and 342 items of packaging material. The consignments were to be brought from Thailand to the United Kingdom and the Netherlands via Austria.

Minister of Finance Gunter Mayr is pleased with the success of the customs officers: ‘Product piracy is not a trivial offence. These counterfeits harm honest entrepreneurs and, since they are usually of inferior quality, also consumers.’

The counterfeit goods have been seized and the rights holders informed.
