Exports' significance

While the global economy is highly driven by crossborder supplies and services in a general sense, the development of small open economies like Austria is in particular reliant on their companies' international business activities. Exports of Austrian goods in total comprised around 135,7 billion Euros in the year 2016 (132 billion Euros in 2015).
Export and Investment Guarantees

The Republic of Austria via the Federal Minister of Finance is authorised to issue guarantees according to the Export Guarantees Act up to a maximum liability limit of € 40bn. OeKB is acting in this business on behalf of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance. Due to different business activities a tailor made guarantee from the Ministry of Finance is provided to secure business activities for Austrian companies against political and commercial risks.
Export financing

The Austrian Federal Minister of Finance is authorized to accept liabilities for OeKB's borrowing on international capital and financial markets. OeKB usually issues loans via commercial banks to final borrowers (exporters, buyers or banks).
Soft Loans

Soft Loans contribute to the realisation of sustainable projects by Austrian exporters in selected developing countries through the use of grants and below-market interest rates. Soft Loan financing is provided in the form of tied aid credits, i.e. it is restricted to the export of mainly Austrian goods and services.
International framework

Almost all of the EU and OECD countries and some of the developing and emerging countries, like China, India, Brazil or South Africa have a state supported export credit system at their disposal.
