Handover of office at the Ministry of Finance Magnus Brunner hands over to Gunter Mayr

Following the inauguration by the Federal President, the handover of office took place this afternoon in the Ministry of Finance from outgoing Finance Minister Magnus Brunner to the previous Head of Section for "Tax Policy and Tax Law" and current Finance Minister Prof. Gunter Mayr. Magnus Brunner symbolically handed over the historic key of the Ministry of Finance to the new landlord.

Mr Brunner is stepping down from his post in order to concentrate on his future role as EU Commissioner. Over the past three years, he has led the finance department during a period of profound crises and significant economic challenges, achieving numerous milestones in the process.

The previous Finance Minister Magnus Brunner thanked the employees of the Ministry for their work over the past few years: "It was an honour to work for the good of Austria at a time full of challenges. I would like to thank all employees in the Ministry of Finance for their support. I am now handing over the office and look forward to continuing to contribute to Europe's progress as EU Commissioner. I am certain that Gunter Mayr is the right person to head the Ministry of Finance. His commitment will continue to strengthen our Ministry of Finance in challenging times. I wish him all the best in his new role," said the outgoing Magnus Brunner.

"I am looking forward to tackling the challenges facing the Ministry of Finance and continuing the work of my predecessor. My goal will be to work on solutions that support Austria on its path to a stable economic future," said Finance Minister Gunter Mayr at the handover of office.

With the departure of Mr Brunner, the experienced expert Gunter Mayr will take up his position as the new Finance Minister of the transitional government. Mr Mayr looks back on an impressive career in the public service and will continue to lead the finance department with extensive expertise and a clear focus on stability and sustainable development. He is a respected tax expert with over 20 years of experience in tax administration. For the past 13 years, he has been Head of Section for "Tax Policy and Tax Law". Mr Mayr, who holds a doctorate in law and business administration, habilitated at the University of Innsbruck before moving to the Ministry of Finance in 2003. He has been teaching financial law at the University of Vienna since 2009.
